Monthly Update

Well, looks like this is what it has come to now. Heee..

Greetings from um, facial. Yes, that's where I'm blogging from atm. Thats what little time I have these days that I have to multitask. Y'know, that thing women do best that men just can't. Hehe.

Confession: I've had half a mind to stop blogging altogether and leave Spilling The Beads as it is, a pet project that once was. But then I'm haunted by these silly weekly traffic reports that spam my inbox. And then that guilt trip dawns on me- people like you reading this still click in. And I feel bad :/ But then again I'm flattered altogether :)

So here I am. My IOU. Happenings so far...

1. WORK has been exciting and tiring. I'll be working at Shanghai Tang the next 2 weeks at Pavilion. So, come visit! :)

In true Shanghai Tang spirit, I got my nails done over the weekend with 'Jade Is The New Black' from OPI's Hong Kong collection. The boring me always goes for French but this time I thought I'd let loose a little. I'm sure my boss would appreciate the enthusiasm but I'm getting them recoloured anyway in French before I start work. Hehe. So much for the effort :P

2. WEDDING, not mine. Sister No.2 just got married last month. I was a bridesmaid! This is her getting ready before the big moment in her Jovian Mandagie gown. More pictures to come! I promise.

3. BABY Tiger, my nephew.

Sister No.1 managed to catch this heartbreakingly cute photo of him winking. Well, sorta. I'm sure he was just stretching. Either that or he is starting young, if you know what I mean. Hehe

That's Tiger and I, Aunty Adeline.

Ok, time for extractions and mask now. Laters! X

First Day of Work

On Thursday, July 15, 2010 0 comments
OK, not really. It's been 2 weeks since I started work. That's how busy I've been. I meant to write about my first day at work. Did I mention, my first job! Aside from my self-declared jewellery designer day job that was. Hehe. Going back to the part where I meant to write- I had the perfect post in mind:
Ah, first day of work..planned my outfit the night before. Laid it all out pressed, clean and crisp. Shoes and handbag to match. Hmm, is this too much?Bare in mind- freshie at work. Need to keep it low and understated. Haha. Black and white. That would work. Ah, somehow get picture taken of day 1 work outfit to blog. Of course that didn't happen.
Took an hour to get ready- hair, makeup and dress-up. 10 mins brekkie, double shot Nespresso and a failed attempt at beating the rush-hour traffic. Basically I've just been on the go go go. Exhausted. I now understand how people can be tired and cranky after a long day at the office. Work so far has been exciting. I have reached that point in my life where weekends are highlights of the week; I actually start giving a damn about public holidays. 2 weeks into the job, 3 events, countless reports and sleepless nights. My orientation into the workforce has been very much an adventure thus far. Funny how I've braced myself to expect the worst cos y'know what they say about the fashion industry... it can be a bitch, or not. But amazingly, everyone I've met at work has been very nice.

I'm currently learning about luxury watches like- IWC Schaffhausen, Bremont, Rolex, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Longines, Cartier and a whole lotta other brands that I can't pronounce! :)

Charm Carousel

On Sunday, June 27, 2010 0 comments
Childhood memories; y'know...the carousels and Merry-Go-Rounds at carnivals. This was what I was trying to envision. Except the kind for grown-ups :) A charm necklace carousel. And off I send it to the boutiques  (Shoes Shoes Shoes) tomorrow (hopefully. still rushing to consolidate all stocks and deliveries!). Featuring a medley of brass charms and vintage stone pendants. When you spin the stand, the necklaces look like dancing wind chimes. So magical. So dreamy.

While waiting for Tiger to come out...sequence of tweevents leading up to his birth stirred quite a bit of excitement. Random tweets flying around:

Btw, my super sister in labour was tweeting all the way. Except while she was pushing of course! :P

" omg @minyee80 is going into labour!"
" Waiting for Tiger to come out and play. @minyee80
about to pop! "

" Daddy Rupert waiting in vain..."

(MAD Sister No.5 bugging Sister No.1 for updates)

" Waiting on news of lil tiger! @minyee80 HELLO UPDATES PLS!"
" Haha wouldn't @minyee80 be too busy to tweet?!??! "
" Are you crazy? Bugging a woman in labour for updates! "
"@minyee80 is super haha cos she is actually tweeting updates!

" only 2cm since midnight..pray it'll be quicker after water breaks.champagne lunch maybe ;) "
" in labor ward now.Waiting for doc to break waters..will tweet if/when possible"

" Waters just broke.by textbook standards it'll be another 6-8hrs :( "

AND FINALLY....
" tiger's out!!! He's got so much hair :) "

And the rest is history. *Thankful for a safe delivery*
What a weekend! I finally got to meet my baby nephew 'Tiger' after 9 months of rub-a-dubbing Sister No.1's baby bump. And so when I got to hold him for the first time, the feeling- almost magical. I can only imagine what it was like for my sister to hold her baby boy. Surreal and perfect beyond words. I guess that's what babies do to you. Although, I still can't comprehend the fact that my sister is now a mother! *Tear* First grandchild, first grandson and first child of the family, he'll be spoiled rotten hehe. But guess he'll have us all to blame for that :P I'm so excited to be an aunty!

Knight In Shining Armour

*Taylor Swift Love Story/ White Horse playing in background*

Another inspired and productive day- 2 necklaces and 1 bracelet. Still in the ribbon chain weave phase and lovin' it. Featuring streams of satin ribbon, chains and freshwater pearls and silver filigree balls. I finally found something to pair these oddly large silver balls with. HUGE, aren't they! :) Both necklaces are about chest length with the first necklace (left) being a tab bit longer than the second necklace (right) due to its chain layers. These pieces are a little bit of romance and edge rolled into one shadowed by the dreamy lavender-grey hues. My kinda fairytale.
Necklaces RM199 each, Bracelet RM129.

Recuperating

On Thursday, June 17, 2010 2 comments
......from an overdose (which stemmed from serious cravings) of frozen yoghurt where OD in this case is not just Ohh, I'm so full.. but instead I was summoned to a rude awakening at 6am yesterday with major gastro pain. Actually, I wasn't even sure what it was because I've never gotten any gastric pains in my life! I'm well fed, you see.. hehe. I thought I was hungry and went down to have a bite. I figured, nothing a sandwich cannot fix. 15 minutes in and the pain intensified. I wanted to DIE. Like, kill me now! I don't understand how so many people I know always go like...Ohh, its normal. I have gastric all the time. Seriously? So I landed myself in hospital with two jabs and a buck loada meds. Ahhh, prescription drugs! Haha. I kid. It wasn't any fun.
Doctor's diagnosis: Well, yoghurt is not bad at all. Just that in some cases consumed in excessive amounts may have a laxative effect that may induce gastric pains. No shit, you weren't kidding, doc.
Lesson: Consume all things in moderation.
Is it wrong that I still have frozen yoghurt cravings even after what it has done to me?!

Lying in bed now, although, not as glamourous as I'd imagine it to be by the beach heee ;(

Sister No.2's Hens Weekend

On Tuesday, June 15, 2010 0 comments
Just got back from the east coast for Sister No.2's hens weekend at Tanjong Jara Resort. I knew I was going to regret this: I love the IDEA of the beach, the reality of it..not quite. Despite being a (last name) Tan (pronounced Ton if you're Asian; Ten if you're a Westerner), middle name Lame haha, I do not like looking as tan as toast. I'm so dark now *WAILS* Need to get hands on new shade of foundation!

But because sisterly love calls for greater acts of love hehe, I threw on my sailor hat, flip flops, bikinis and kaftans and off I went with the girls to celebrate the last of her bachelorette days. On board our weekend getaway was us 7 girls. Having a mommy and some newlyweds with us to add some sugar and spice to our vice and vanity talks was something everyone could do with. We talked about everything under the sun, from men to collagen anti-ageing treatments to parenting to shopping to botox to tummy tucks to "I NEVER" (a game not for the faint hearted).......

So anyway, the first night was a Nautical theme- a crew of sailor girls and a Lady Captain, your wildest fantasy come true. HAHAHH, I KID.
Camho-ing on our "ship" :P

Let the games begin! We made her a naughty box filled with "stuff" and made her guess what was inside with penalty shots to follow. Go ahead, take a WILD guess!

One of the many items, a bedtime story book hehe. *Blushing bride
And then the second night, it was Sarong Saturday! I had a hard time figuring out how to tie my sarong without worrying that it would fall off. Again, the idea of a sarong was sexy but it was a thin line gearing towards wardrobe malfunction. Its amazing what you can do with just that one piece of cloth! Whatt is up with my hands/fingers!? Bloody Caprinas. The devill.
Truth or Dare! Deceiving-looking placards for the bride. Our post-dinner entertainment haha! What did she have to do? Oh, I cannot divulge. Because a hen does not kiss and tell.

So, we get back from our weekend and her fiance asks me "How was the hens night?"
Me: "What hens?" Tee hee.

Alphabet Bags

On Tuesday, June 08, 2010 0 comments
Looky here what I just found- Alphabet Bags! I guess I'm just a sucker for anything personalized. And when I come across such pretty things, I can't help but start thinking about who I should buy them for. They make such great gifts. Alphabet Bags make a range of cotton bags and purses with their signature collection being the alphabet range, of course. They also have a whole other range of punctuation, numbers and typographic prints but I seem to be smitten by these coin purses in particular. If that's not enough, the designers behind this label will.; a lovely couple. Now whoever said business and pleasure don't mix?

Zara On-The-Go

On Sunday, June 06, 2010 0 comments
If you're still a Blackberry user (you know who you are haha). Here's one reason to get an iPhone, my darlings. The ZARA application (on top of a million other amazing apps hehe). What's so awesome about this app is that it is country specific. Not just some app that is only available to the US or what not. You have the luxury of browsing through Zara's entire collection without the whole rack-browsing workout. Not just look book and catalogue pictures, but individually displayed items. PLUS, it has new pieces added to its collection weekly! You can browse every collection- from WOMAN to MAN to CASUAL and even to KID. It also has prices displayed in MYR. Saves you the hassle of struggling to balance pile of clothes in one hand and trying to flip over the price tag with the other without it slipping off the hanger. This app takes window shopping to a whole new level. Of course, nothing beats the real shopping experience but if you love Zara as much as me, this is heaven sent.

'No Shopping Bag' Day at Baci

On Saturday, June 05, 2010 0 comments
Can you imagine being deprived of the satisfaction and glee of that walking-out-the-store-with-shopping-bags-in-hand-feeling? Well, I can :(

I bought the cutest top from Baci today! A sequined clown collar with sleepy Gaga-looking prints all over, I thought it was pretty cool :) Fell in love with it the moment I saw it. Would have loved it even more though if Baci gave me a paper bag to go with my purchase. The snooty salesgirl actually asked me to put it in my bag! Ugh, the nerve. Because apparently it was 'No Plastic Bag' day today. What a lame excuse. Since when did they even start giving out plastic bags anyway? Didn't know I was doing groceries. Its not that I am not eco-friendly, but as a boutique, I believe that there is a more tasteful approach to going green. P.s. I bring my own bags for groceries. So really, it was bad enough that I had to stuff my shopping into my handbag but to learn that they actually use plastic bags on their 'Plastic Bag Days' was what had me a little confused.

My mad love for jewellery was crazy enough to get me into making my own pieces and now, a jewellery label (m i n z) to boot. I'm staying true to my life plan which was to graduate with a degree in Banking & Finance and have (somewhat) nothing to do with it haha! So far, I'm on track :) I work for company in the luxury fashion business. I have an overflowing chest of accessories with no clothes. For some reason, I have nothing to wear. Hmm.
